A dog owner is facing animal cruelty charges in the aftermath of witnesses stepping forward.
The four-month-old Australian Kelpie has been seized by the Nebraska Humane Society. Evaluation staff didn't find any significant injuries but say the puppy named Zeke has behavior issues - possibly due to abuse.
On Wednesday, the Humane Society received several complaints about how the owner treated the dog at a complex near 110th and Maple in northwest Omaha.
Humane Society Officer Kelly Brown said, "Yes they witnessed, they say that they witnessed, the owner throwing the dog and punching it out in the courtyard of the apartment complex."
Twenty-year-old Matthew Osterhaus has been cited for cruelty to animals. A judge will determine if he can get Zeke back or the Humane Society will take possession and put the dog up for adoption.
