Public Input On Bar Closing Time

Request for 2am closing on hold. The Cassgram reports the Cass County Board of Commissioners wants to gather input before voting on extending the possible hours for on-sale of alcohol at establishments approved through the county.

For years, the state-imposed bar closing time was 1am. In 2010, the state gave cities and counties the authority to decide if their local establishments can stay open until 2am.

Any change in the county regulations would apply county-wide to all eligible county-licensed operations. The change cannot be made on an establishment-by-establishment basis.

The 2am request came from the owners of Tiki Time at Beaver Lake.

First the board granted the liquor license request of S.S.L.R to re-open the lounge on Rock Bluff Road. It had closed under the old ownership on January 1st of this year. Now that the county has approved the license, Robin Garner of S.S.L.R. said he hopes to open Tiki Time as soon as the state process is completed.

The board then approved Tiki Time as a Cass County keno location.

But board members did not want to make a quick decision on S.S.L.R.’s request to have the option to stay open until 2am.
