Update: Bond Set at $1M For Child Porn Suspect

A Sarpy County judge set bond at ten percent of $1 million for the man accused of possessing and distributing child pornography.

James Klinkner appeared in court Monday morning. In addition to setting bond, the judge also ordered a public defender be assigned to Klinkner's case.

Klinkner had been working at La Petite Academy Day Care; however, the company told WOWT 6 News he was suspended, without pay, immediately following his arrest. Until the matter is resolved, the company said Klinkner is not allowed on its premises.

The Sarpy County prosecutor's office isn't wasting any time in pursuing the case against James Klinkner, a man accused of possessing and distributing child pornography.

Bellevue Police arrested Klinkner Thursday. He had been working at the La Petite Academy Day Care, north of 140th and West Center Road but authorities stressed that the photographs involved in the case did not involve any children there.

The arrest followed a nine month investigation. Authorities say Klinkner was distributing child pornography.

The investigation was triggered when someone in Germany offered a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Bellevue Police started looking into the matter but they say that it was initially like looking for a needle in a haystack. An internet service provider later noticed one of Klinkner's alleged distributions and notified Internet Crimes Against Children.

With those tips, Bellevue made the arrest.

Klinkner is facing two counts of possessing child pornography and 31 counts of distribution. For those 31 distribution charges, he could face a minimum of three years and a maximum of 50 years in prison for each count.

Chief Deputy Sarpy County Attorney Tricia Freeman said she believes this investigation has just begun. “I think if you look at the complexity of this investigation, which is very indicative of just how difficult sometimes these cases are to investigate, but I think the officers are just scratching the surface of what's happening.”

Klinkner is scheduled for a bond-setting on Monday.
