A Council Bluffs man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Thursday, nearly a year to the date, after shooting a mother and son.
Ronald Farr, Jr. will not be eligible for parole for 17 and a half years. He pleaded guilty to attempted murder and willful injury.
On February 12, 2013, Farr fired a gun 11 times at then 22-year-old Heather Wilson, who was loading her 19-month-old son into the car, just outside the Indian Hills Apartment in Council Bluffs.
Pottawattamie County Attorney Matt Wilbur said, "He shot at her 11 times with a .45 caliber and struck her eight times, including several as she's lying facedown. He just shot her point blank in the back several of those rounds went complety through her, one went through her into her son."
Wilson and her son have both since recovered. Prosecutors have said the shooting occurred after a drug deal went badly between Farr and Wilson's boyfriend, at the time.
Prosecutors dropped attempted murder charges on the child and going armed with intent, in exchange for Farr's guilty plea. When asked if he had anything to say in court Thursday, Farr mumbled that he was sorry.
