The agency says Iowans can turn in their unused, unneeded or expired prescription medications at collection sites across the state on Friday and Saturday.
The collection service is part of a nationwide program by the Drug Enforcement Administration, which reports that more Americans abuse prescription drugs than the number of those using cocaine, hallucinogens and heroin combined.
Officials say the program is free and anonymous.
