President Obama has signed a federal disaster declaration for Pottawattamie County this afternoon, that's according to Don Gross, Public Information Officer for the City of Council Bluffs.
The announcement comes just 9 days after Iowa Governor Terry Branstad asked for a declaration.
Branstad touring the flooding in Council Bluffs Monday afternoon. He met with city and county leaders about flooding issues and visited the site of a seepage blanket project along the level. Branstad called this flooding the worst he's seen along the Missouri. He hopes federal funding will help what the county is already doing.
"The uncertainty with all the problems that people are going through the more assurance we can give them the better," Branstad said.
Coming up Monday on the WOWT News at 10, we'll explain the seepage blanket project and tell you why it will help prevent flooding.
