Popular Neighborhood Light Display Goes Dark

Cork Street in Papillion hasn't been this dark after Thanksgiving in more than a decade. The owner of an award-winning display that would draw more than a thousand people on a weekend has moved.

Kyle Richards used to be OPPD's best friend in terms of power usage. He moved from the Papillion home this summer and a family emergency kept him from setting up his enormous display at the new house.

In 2003, his home and adjacent property near 84th and Giles was named America's Best in an online contest for NBC's Today Show. Al Roker even visited the home with a camera crew.

Last year was even bigger.

"I'm 40 now and this is the first time since I was six that I haven't set up holiday lights," said Kyle Richards, who plans to bring his lights out of storage next year at his new home in the metro.

It's so big, set-up typically takes him 1 1/2 months. His childhood dream had become a lifelong obsession.

Neighbors say several cars and buses have driven by the home since Thanksgiving expecting to see a glowing home.
