A 46-year-old Lincoln woman has been arrested on charges of drunk driving, hitting a pedestrian, and leaving the scene of an accident. The victim was killed while crossing Cornhusker Highway near 14th Street Sunday night.
Police identified the victim Monday afternoon as 53-year-old Daniel Lee Kreis, a Lincoln transient.
The incident was reported at 9:28pm Sunday. Police say the drivers of three vehicles report seeing Kreis crossing the road at midblock between N. 11th & N 14th Streets. The driver in the lead vehicle, identified as Kelly Hall, applied her brakes but struck the man. Another driver, who was in the next lane over but behind Kelly, was also forced to apply his brakes but managed to avoid contact.
The report says Hall initially stopped her vehicle and saw that Kreis was unconscious and severely injured. However, she left the scene without giving any contact information.
The victim was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later at Bryan LGH West.
Police later contacted Kelly. She was described as having bloodshot, watery eyes with a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. She was cited for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in serious bodily injury.
