Police say on August 25th, two men pushed a 9-year-old off his bike and took off with it. The boy suffered a scrape on his knee during the incident at Minnie Lusa Boulevard and Mary Street. His week of anguish ended Wednesday night when police recovered his bike and made an arrest.
Police were made aware of the theft as part of their Violence Prevention Operation in the northeast and northwest precincts. Detectives saw the bicycle outside a store at 24th Street and Redick Avenue at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
They detained 19-year-old Farrell Mitchell and cited him for theft by receiving. Police tell Channel 6 News Mitchell was not identified by the boy as the man who took his bike. However, he was cited for theft by receiving because he was in possession of the bike, which was returned to the owner.
