The woman who leaped to her death off an Amtrak train in Stanton, Iowa Monday night was a French tourist.
Montgomery County officials identified her as 31-year-old Stephanie Carine Hatt. Sheriff Joe Sampson said Hatt entered the United States last week. She was described as being nervous on the train and a conductor tried to calm her.
The sheriff said the woman suddenly got up, ran down an aisle, opened a door and jumped while the train was going nearly 80 miles an hour. Her body was found near the tracks in the area of Broad Avenue and James Street just before 10 p.m.
An autopsy will be done.
