As part of National Law Enforcement Memorial Week, a vigil walk is planned for Tuesday night.

It begins at 8 p.m., at Omaha Central Police Headquarters, off 15th & Howard.

"This event pays tribute to the career of a law enforcement officer by 'walking the beat,' reads a police press release.

The Walk winds through the Old Market, and returns to Central Station.

Walkers will be accompanied by the Omaha Police Pipe & Drum Corps. A narrative describing the career of an officer is also provided during the Walk.

Police say the walk is suitable for children and easy enough to allow for strollers. After the walk, a short prayer vigil service will take place on the Plaza of Central Police Headquarters.

National Law Enforcement Memorial Week honors officers killed in the line of duty.
