Usually we see police training in their cruisers for high-speed chases, but in La Vista, officers were tested on how they park.
A course of cones was set up Tuesday at 65th and Harrison to illustrate situations police might face at an accident scene or traffic stop. The officers not only practiced pulling over safely, but also driving away without hitting other vehicles.
“A lot of times when you think about driving a police car, folks might think lights, sirens and driving fast and we do train for that, but on a daily basis this style of driving is what we want to focus on as well to make sure our guys are out there driving safe,” said La Vista Police Sgt. Bryan Waugh.
The entire 35-member department, including the chief, took the driving and classroom training.
