A Lincoln man is facing charges after police say he stole $100,000 worth of steel. A skid loader left at the scene left a big clue as to who the suspect may be, after he allegedly came back to lift more steel.
Police arrested Joshua Hoegemeyer Monday for felony theft.
The owner of Speedway Motors discovered thousands of dollars worth of steel had been taken from their 333 Speedway Circle location.
Police say a skid loader that did not belong to the company was left at the scene.
"That skid loader had been rented to Joshua Hoegemeyer. We later learned that since renting that skid loader, Joshua had made several trips to Alter Scrap, in order to exchange large amounts of steel for cash," Officer Katie Flood said.
Officers caught Hoegemeyer Monday night after he returned to the scene of the crime for more steel.
Police say he arrived in his truck, pulling a flatbed trailer. Investigators surveilling the area watched as Heogemeyer stepped into the skid loader and began loading a 20’ steel mast onto his flatbed.
Police are still investigating where else Hoegemeyer may a sold the metal and if he was working alone or had a partner.
