Police: Des Moines Officer Fired At Menacing SUV

Police say their investigation of a shot fired by an officer at a menacing vehicle has been completed.

Police spokesman Jason Halifax said Sunday that the officer, Bryan O'Donnell, routinely has been removed from patrol pending a decision by the county attorney on whether O'Donnell will face charges.

Halifax say O'Donnell had fired at a sport utility vehicle during a chase Saturday night after the 16-year-old driver wouldn't pull over. At one point the driver lost control and the SUV spun around and faced the police cruiser. Halifax says the SUV then ran into the cruiser, prompting a shot by O'Donnell. The SUV then ran into the cruiser again, narrowly missing an officer who was with O'Donnell.

The 16-year-old boy is in custody and faces several counts of assault.
