In a news release Monday, Omaha Police said the department aimed to crackdown on celebratory gunfire during New Year celebrations.
“Celebratory gunfire remains a problem in many cities, particularly during the holiday season, and sadly, it can often have tragic results when innocent people are hit by the bullets and injured or killed.”
According to police, there is a zero tolerance of illegal gun use inside the city’s limits. The release went on to say that discharging a firearm is potentially deadly and any violators will be arrested.
To enforce this policy, police will utilize the ShotSpotter gunfire alert and analysis solution to detect and locate gunfire incidents, as well to gather gunfire intelligence and data.
