Police Arrest Second Shooting Suspect

Omaha police recognized a shooting suspect and were able to take him into custody without incident, even though police say they found a firearm tucked in his waistband.

An officer patrolling near 25th and Jones saw 32-year-old Clarence Smith and recognized him as a person of interest related to a weekend shooting.

Omaha police say Smith attempted to get away from the officer and reached for his waist. The officer took Smith to the ground, and, after a brief struggle, more officers were there to help take Smith into custody.

The firearm allegedly on Smith had not been reported stolen.

Smith was booked on charges stemming from his attempt to flee from police and charges related to a recent shooting.

On September 28th, 27-year-old Pete Pane and 22-year-old Tiffanie Carmichael were shot near 40th and Leavenworth. Neither suffered life threatening injuries.

Smith is charged for his alleged involvement in the shooting along with 27-year-old John Meyers.
