Snow Needed For Plow Business

There are some people who are really glad to see the big snowfall. Private contractors need the added accumulation to make sure they're not digging their business out of a hole.

Hundreds have been out for hours digging people out of their homes, and helping others open for business. Jay Wieker, the Co-Owner S&W Lawn Care and Snow Removal says half of their clients are residential and the other are small businesses. He says they're glad to get back on track after an unusually warm January.

"This is our main source of income, pretty much our only source of income over the winter months. And we invest in all the plow equipment and we need to stay busy," Wieker explained.

Many businesses and homeowners depend on private contractors when events like this take place.

Brian Wiese with SunCo Grounds Management says they'll have all 20 of their plows out all day. Even some skid loaders will pick up the pace.

"Normally I would say on average we'd been out 10-12 times already, so it's just been a real dry weather,” Wiese described. "We've been doing this for a long time, so we budget for the worst and hope for the best."

Both say they'd rather see less of a snowfall since it's easier on the equipment, but they'll take it anyway they can get it.
