Plenty of ghosts and goblins made their way out into the Old Market Sunday afternoon. It was a safe way for families to enjoy Halloween.
Forty-two businesses in the Old Market gave out candy to trick-or-treaters. Children could also pick out a free book thanks to Metro Community College. Five thousand books were given out as part of "Books Are Treats, Too."
Families say the fun and family-friendly atmosphere is a good way to celebrate the holiday safely. "Yeah, yeah definitely and I like that it's earlier too, so we can get out and not wait 'til it's late," said Kimberly Whiting of Omaha.
Businesses taking part in the event say they had a great turnout. The event was put on by the Old Market Business Association.
