Plattsmouth Project Goes To Bid

Improving a busy road in Cass county.

The county is asking for bids on paving 18th Street. The Cass County Board of Commissioners will find out the costs of paving the two miles from Bay Road south to near Ashland Road.

Should the county decide to go ahead with the project, the project would occur next year.

Bids for projects in the last couple of years have been coming in well under engineers’ preliminary estimates but county board members and roads department officials do not know if that will be the case anymore because of the amount of work road construction contractors now have to repair highways damaged by flooding.

Adding to the hopes for a lower bid though is the fact contractors will be working on the Highway 75 expansion in northern Cass County next year and the 18th Street project may be viewed as a good side project while crews and equipment are in the area.

Bids will be opened in November.

---Roads superintendent Lenny Thorne said he hopes River Road along the Missouri River east of Plattsmouth is open by this Friday. When the flooding subsided, inspections revealed little damage to the road but crews had to deal with cleaning off the silt. The recent rains delayed that process.
