Personnel Board Gives Stamp Of Approval To Fire Contract
The city of Omaha Personnel Board voted Thursday morning to pass the proposed fire contract 4-0.
The contract now goes to the Omaha City Council for final approval. A public hearing is scheduled for December 11th and it will be voted on December 18th.
Just before Thanksgiving, firefighters voted to approve the new contract. Once final, this will be the first contract since 2007 for Omaha firefighters.
The deal, negotiated through the City Council, does a number of things. Firefighters would see an increase in wages, but more expenses for health care. The city saves money by raising the age of retirement.
Last year, the City Council rejected a deal negotiated by Mayor Suttle's staff, stating it didn't save the taxpayers enough money. In turn, the City Council took over negotiating duties with the unions.
