Permits have gone on sale for permits to cut ponderosa pines from selected areas in the Nebraska National Forest near Chadron.
Each $10 permit entitles the purchaser to harvest a tree up to 15 feet tall. The permits are available at the U.S. Forest Service Pine Ridge District office in Chadron.
Each permit comes with cutting guidelines, travel recommendations and map that shows roads and trails open to the public.
Only areas designated on the permit map are open to the cutting of Christmas trees.
