A man killed when he was struck by a train in Lincoln Monday night has been identified as 56-year-old Paul Bellew.
He was apparently crossing the tracks away from a designated crossing near North 35th and Adams streets when he was hit around 8 p.m. The tracks are in an area where trains don't have to sound whistles as they pass, but the crew says they did sound horns as soon as they saw Bellew, who may have been under the influence of alcohol.
The conductor saw him stumble and fall back onto the tracks, but it was too late to stop the train in time.
