Ever thought a tree could grow in a downtown parking space? We noticed that happening Friday in the Old Market.
Two metered parking stalls at 13th and Howard became a park for the day.
It's part of an annual worldwide event, Park(ing) Day to bring attention to the importance of green space in an urban environment.
UNO students as part of a urban landscape appreciation class helped design it.
“The number one thing in this space," said UNO professor Steve Rodie. "We like to be in a landscape where we feel protected but we see everything around us. Almost every place in the Old Market has that where you can see traffic and people ."
There are also a number of signs placed in the parking stall park so that the public can read about the lessons and goals associated with the space.
