Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is reporting record attendance. Zoo operators credit two things for the high attendance figures: The re-opening of the Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium and a warm spring.
The attendance for January was 43,680. The previous record for January was 37,725 in 2006.
The attendance for March was 161,152. The previous record for March was 106,054 in 2009.
In April 174,373 visited the view marking the second highest attendance figure for April.
The early attendance spikes prompted the zoo to open concession stands and rides earlier than usual.
The zoo is also wrapping up this year’s membership drive. The goal was to reach 60,000 members. The drive drew in 63,222 members.
