Former Nebraska football coach and athletic director Tom Osborne called a sports-a-rooski play Thursday and helped unveil the new hockey jerseys that the Omaha Lancers will wear this Saturday night.
They look suspiciously like Husker football jerseys but it’s only a one-game switch.
Osborne was in Ralston for the event because the jerseys will be auctioned after the game with the proceeds going to his Teammates mentoring program.
The players were excited about the new look, even if it's for just one game.
Lancers forward Gage Hough said, “Growing up, I'm from Nebraska, and it's awesome to watch the Huskers. And then getting to wear a Huskers jersey, especially for Tom Osborne's organization, is really a treat."
The puck drops at 7:05 Saturday night at the Ralston arena. The Lancers play the rival Lincoln Stars.
All the hockey jerseys and the ones with some numbers of Husker greats will be available for auction afterwards.
The Teammmates program is in its 22nd year.
