Update: Bond Set For Pursuit Suspect

After leading law enforcement on a chase from Omaha to Council Bluffs and back to Omaha Thursday afternoon, an Omaha woman will need to pay $1,500 to get out of jail. Bond was set at $15,000 Friday during a court hearing for Jessica Katz.

The 30-year-old Katz is charged with theft by receiving, possession of a controlled substance, leaving the scene of an accident and for a warrant out of Iowa.

The pursuit ended when she crashed a stolen pickup into a car and a fence near 23rd and K streets. Katz ran from the scene, but was soon captured. "She ran between the houses and one of the special agents had her at gunpoint here and I placed her into handcuffs and arrested her," said Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Mike Kober.

Authorities were originally told that an armed man was with Katz, but that information proved to be false. It prompted the lockdown of nearby Spring Lake Elementary and South High School for about a half hour.

Officers are going to take a close look at Katz because there are indications this may be part of a larger ring of auto thieves and other criminal activity.

The owner of the stolen, red Dodge pickup had called 911 to report he was driving behind his stolen vehicle. He told Channel 6 News a friend spotted it and called him. Katz realized she was being followed and that began the high-speed chase back and forth across the Veterans Memorial Bridge.

"I would never recommend chasing a stolen vehicle like I did," said the owner, who didn't want his name used. "It felt like an episode of 'Cops,' following my stolen vehicle."
