Overweight Kids Eating Too Much? Study: Maybe Not

There's some surprising new research on the eating habits among obese and overweight children.

A University of North Carolina study finds that while younger obese children consume more calories than their peers -- that pattern is reversed among kids who are nine to 17 years old.

Researchers say this may be because children who are overweight tend to stay overweight as they get older, even if they cut their calorie intake. That may be because obese children are generally less active and burn fewer calories each day.

Scientists say the results suggest intervention programs should focus on healthy eating for younger children while older kids should understand the importance of physical activity.
