Local veterans rally to help other former service men and women get the food they need. A local veterans group recently discovered that the VA Food Bank couldn't always meet the needs of homeless vets.
That has all changed. The American Legion - Department of Nebraska decided to restock the shelves of the food bank - and keep them full of food.
Now they are partnering with other veterans groups and grocery store chains to keep the supply coming.
Ron Ingram says, "This is all uncalled for and especially for individuals like our veterans who have given so much and asked for so little so the best thing we can do is; those of us who are more fortunate is to see that they and their families do have the food and the necessary things to survive."
Ingram says the group is also working with community gardens to get some fresh fruits and vegetables in the veterans' diet.
Veterans can sign up for help at the VA's Community Resource and Referral Center.
