Open Door Mission Hosts Health Fair

Local homeless and at-risk people got something Tuesday they don't get very often and that's health care. Clarkson College held a Health Fair at the Open Door Mission.

Students took blood pressure and sugar readings, ran diabetes monitoring and taught basic cancer self-exams. One student said events like this are incredibly important so homeless men and women know if they need follow-up care.

“We're hoping that we can get these people information about potential health problems they could be having and at least make them aware so they can utilize community resources and know that they need community resources," said Nathan Gibilisco.

The event ran for three hours at the Open Door Mission’s new Garland Thompson Men’s Center. Students said it was also a great chance to practice skills while helping those who really need it.
