Only on 6: Boy Stuck Behind Bars Going Home

A 12-year old boy, locked up since December for threatening to kill his classmates, could be going home soon.

"It's good news," said Amy Harrison, the boy's mother. "Better than I had hoped for. Whatever the conditions are we'll go with it. Because I'm just happy to have my baby being able to come home."

The 12 year old hasn't been home for nearly 2 months. He was taken to the Douglas County Youth Center on Dec. 18 after threatening to kill classmates at Lewis and Clark Middle School in Omaha.

According to prosecutors, the boy told classmates "You think Connecticut was bad? Wait to see what I do. I'll paint these walls red. I'll kill you all. I'm going to bring a gun to school and kill all of you."

His mother says he'd been bullied.

In court Monday he admitted that he had made the threats and will avoid a trial.

Monday was the first time he had spoken to a judge..

"The last time we were here, they denied a motion for an arraignment because of ill-prepared legal counsel," said Harrison.

The judge will also allow the boy to go home while he waits for his disposition hearing, which is juvenile court's version of a sentencing.

"The process has started to get him home," Harrison said. "And that's what we needed. Because he's more than learned his lesson. It would scare me at 12 to be in there for a day, let alone two months. So he's learned. He's a smart kid. I think he'll watch his mouth now. I'm pretty sure."

The boy should be able to leave the Douglas County Youth Center later in the week. It will take a couple days of processing before he can go home to his mother's house wearing the GPS ankle bracelet

The boy will not be going back to Lewis and Clark School, but will be enrolled in an OPS alternative school for students who have been expelled.
