There were three crashes in Omaha over the weekend, all involving drivers with suspended licenses. Channel 6 spoke with a victim of one of those crashes and it turns out the man that hit him was also driving drunk.

From inside his hospital room at the Nebraska Medical Center, Scott Sueper talks about what he’s gone through the past couple of days. “It was very excruciating pain for the first day before I could stand up.”

Sueper broke his neck and got stitches on his forehead. It’s a result of an accident that happened early Saturday morning. Sueper was on his way to work when his Chevy cavalier collided with a Plymouth minivan at 16th and Storz Expressway.

Michael Wilson was driving the minivan, but he shouldn’t have been. Police say he was driving with a suspended license and while under the influence.

“You risk your live and the lives of other, the people around you. It’s never worth that risk,” said Sueper.

According to County Attorney Don Kleine this is a big problem. He says they are currently working on over 180 cases of felony DUI and driving while suspended.

Kleine wants to warn anyone driving with a suspended license that there are consequences for your actions. Within the past year they've created a new unit to help prosecute offenders.

Sueper will be dealing with the consequences of someone else’s actions for a while. It will be especially tough because his wife is pregnant and he will be out of work for at least three months.

“This will definitely hurt me financially since I was working three jobs to be able to pay for my house and my wife’s prenatal care.”

Despite those challenges he’s just thankful to be alive.

As for Wilson, he is now in jail under a $102,500 bond. He doesn’t have a previous DUI, but does have a record with over 100 charges.
