The University of Nebraska's online credit hours have jumped nearly 30 percent, and officials plan to continue expanding the virtual offerings.
University officials say students logged 87,820 credit hours through NU's Lincoln, Kearney and Omaha campuses during the
2009-2010 school year.
That's 28 percent higher than the 68,435 credit hours taught at those campuses during the previous school year.
And the University of Nebraska Medical Center offered another 10,313 credit hours in 2009-2010, but comparable data isn't available for the previous year.
Currently, many of the students taking online courses are also attending classes on campus, but officials hope to attract more online-only students.
NU President J.B. Milliken says the university wants to use online courses to make it easier for students anywhere to get a high-quality education.
