The concept of one trash hauler serving Plattsmouth is something the mayor and city council members are seeking public input on. There are differing views among city leaders as discussions begin.
The Cassgram says Mayor Paul Lambert advocated the one-hauler idea and initiated discussion.
He said it would reduce the wear and tear on public streets.
Public safety is also a concern he has with multiple companies now coming into Plattsmouth on different days. “If I were a parent, it would be good knowing when trash haulers are coming through the neighborhood.”
Lambert said billing for trash service with the water bill would also make sure everyone is paying for trash service and would eliminate people sneaking their trash into commercial dumpsters, a complaint he’s heard from local business owners.
Recycling may also be more likely with one service, he said.
Councilman Mike Bowman supported the idea. “I think it’s a worthwhile proposal.”
