One year after spending nearly a half-million dollars to stop a bed bug infestation, staff at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln said Wednesday there were only two cases last semester.

A heat treatment got rid of those bugs and they haven't been back since. “I am very satisfied,” said UNL Housing Director Sue Gildersleeve. “We did everything that we could at the time and we've had a good plan moving forward and so far it seems to be working very well."

The school was criticized last year by some students for keeping the infestation quiet. The university now posts signs on dorm floors where inspectors find bed bugs. All infected areas immediately get the heat treatment.
