A weekend shooting victim has died of his injuries. Gary Rice becomes the 29th homicide victim in Omaha this year.
Rice, 29, was shot Sunday night at 21st & Poppleton. Police say initial indications were that two suspects forced their way into a residence and then fired shots inside.
Detectives are looking for the shooter. Officers stress they don’t want to know your name or phone number, only your information about the crime.
In 2011, Omaha had 37 homicides.
According to initial radio reports, one person was shot and taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in very critical condition.
The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Gary Rice.
Police on scene may have been looking for one or more suspects that left the scene in a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero via a nearby alley.
Several neighbors that live close by tell Channel Six News that they heard multiple shots and tires screeching as a car fled the scene.
