One person was killed and three injured, one critically, when a car going the wrong way on Interstate 29 just north of Council Bluffs collided with another car Friday night.
The Iowa State Patrol said a Kia heading north in the southbound lanes struck a Nissan head-on at 10:35 p.m. The driver of the Kia, 33-year-old David Miller of Benton, Arkansas, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three people in the Nissan were injured. The condition of the driver, Fredy Zanabria, has been upgraded to serious condition. His passengers, Cesar Caballero and Luz Trujilo, both 23, also remain hospitalized in serious condition.
The southbound lanes of I-29 were shut down for hours due to the accident and have since reopened.
The State Patrol is still investigating, trying to determine why Miller was going the wrong way.
