Hadan is being held without bond after appearing in court Friday morning.
Homicide Detectives believe Hadan shot and killed Eckhout while the couple was sitting in a stopped car that was blocking traffic on an entrance ramp at 72nd & L St. around 5:30 pm on January 1.
Moments before the shooting, an Omaha Police officer stopped to see if the couple were experiencing mechanical problems. He briefly spoke with Hadan.
As the officer headed back to his cruiser to divert backed up traffic, he heard gun shots coming from Hadan's car.
Detectives believe Hadan shot Eckhout then turned the gun on himself.
He was hospitalized until charged with the homicide on Friday. Haden was in a wheelchair during his appearance in court.
Due to his medical condition, Hadan is being held in the Nebraska Department of Corrections Diagnostic and Evaluation Center in Lincoln.
Hadan is charged with First Degree Murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, felon in possession of a gun and possession of a controlled substance.
