It's a one-stop shop for new and expecting mothers. Baby Love Essentials organized a baby fair at the Ramada Plaza Convention Center on Sunday. The event empowers families by showing them step by step how to take care of their little ones.
Kimberly Hemelstrand just had her baby 16 days ago and came to the fair to learn all about the latest gadgets.
“I think as a new mom, there's so much information that's out there so its exciting to have it all in one place as opposed to perusing the internet, you never know what your going to find,” says Hemelstrand.
One of the most popular booths was an infant CPR course.
Katie Miles took the class and says she’s grateful.
“I think you should know how to do CPR for when you have small children in the house,” says Miles.
“I want to make sure the kids are safe.”
Dr. Jillyn Kratochvil, a pediatrician, works at Children’s Physicians and says taking a safety course and keeping your home tidy is important.
“When the baby starts crawling around, make sure small things are picked up,” says Kratochvil.
“Especially if they have older siblings sometimes they have small toys and a piece could break off and can lead to an emergency for choking.”
She also says parents should secure heavy items to the wall to avoid furniture from tipping over and hurting a young child.
“They sell tethering units that you can hook up to the back of your TV or back of your furniture. It’s very cheap and you can get it at any baby supply store.”
Organizers say around 3,000 people stopped through the fair, making it more successful than last year.
Baby Love Essentials plans on having another baby fair in September to prepare mothers who didn't attend this fair because they don't know yet that they're expecting.
