An Omaha woman was taken to the hospital Monday with what emergency dispatchers described as a "paring knife in the back of her head."
First responders were called to the area of 24th and Douglas around 9:15 a.m. Monday.
A police sergeant at the scene said 28-year-old Lucia Francisco-Simon and her brother, 33-year-old Jacob Francisco took in the suspect, 20-year-old Dmitry Vanderbeek, an acquaintance, Sunday night. Monday morning, Vanderbeek was behaving strangely and was asked to leave. Police said Vanderbeek grabbed a paring knife from the kitchen and cut both victims.
According to police, Vanderbeek was held at the scene until officers arrived. He was arrested on two counts of felony assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Lucia was taken to Alegent-Creighton University Medical Center in critical condition. Her brother, Jacob, was treated at the scene.
