The Omaha Post Office is preparing for their busiest day of the year, Monday, December 17th. It has tips for people planning to use postal services this holiday season.

Post office officials expect around 192,000 packages will be mailed on Monday. More than 650 million cards, letters and packages are expected nationwide. Officials say offices will be fully staffed.

Officials say those looking to avoid the crowds and save some time and money can ship from home for the holidays at usps.com where prices are up to 16 percent lower than post offices. Customers shipping online receive free delivery confirmation and free package pickup.

The Postal Service expects to deliver 365 million packages this holiday season, a 20 percent increase over last year. Suggested mail-by dates for cards and packages for U.S. addresses are December 14th for parcel post, December 20th for first-class mail, December 21st for priority mail and December 22nd for express mail.

For international destinations, Global Express Guaranteed is available through December 19th for most countries. Express Mail Military Service is available through December 17th for all locations except Afghanistan.
