Omaha police and fire personnel took part in the 2012 Police and Fire Blue Mass Wednesday morning.
The Blue Mass pays tribute to those who continue to serve in the public safety field and remembers those who have given their lives in the line of duty.
The Blue Mass honors St. Michael the Archangel, Patron Saint of those employed in the public safety field and St. Florian, Patron Saint of firefighters.
The Mass dates back to 1934 when the uniforms worn by many first responders were blue. The ceremony was held at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church at 48th and Grover streets.
