A man found with a gunshot wound later died at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha Sunday morning.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was found near South 27th and Howard streets just before 6 a.m. and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

"I hope they make the streets safer around here because I don't want my kids out here,” said Stephanie Stenberg, who lives just a few feet from where the victim was found. “Oh my God, it's shocking, like I'm scared for my children right now."

“I looked outside and there was police lined all up and down the block,” said Roger Karasek. “It's kind of a concern for the local neighbors. We kind of keep an eye out for everybody, so something like this happening is kind of like scary, a shock."

Police spent hours at the scene. Trying to piece together what led up to the crime. "They impounded a blue SUV and a black Saturn,” said Stenberg, convinced the neighborhood is no longer safe for children. "I want to move out of this area because you know, once one person gets shot, it's just gonna create drama throughout the whole summer."

Anyone with information about the murder is asked to call police at (402) 444-5652. You may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
