The idea is to get kids away from the TV and to enjoy going outside to explore the outdoors. That's one of the goals of the "Omaha Longbeards," an organization aiming to make a difference in Omaha.
Many Nebraskans has had the opportunity to see wildlife up close and enjoy outdoor sports like fishing and hiking. However, some kids never had the chance to do those things. So, members of the Longbeards are helping provide that outdoor adventure.
"We take them to the Eastern Nebraska Gun Club and they get a day at the range, shooting sports, they get to do archery, fishing and arts and crafts that they use with wildlife themes in it, we take them out and they have a blast at that,” president Quint Johnson said.
The Omaha Longbeards are associated with the National Wild Turkey Federation. More information about the Longbeards may be found on Facebook. They're always looking for volunteers to help with their activities for kids and their parents.
