Aimee Melton announced Friday she will be a candidate for the Omaha City Council in District 7, which covers the northwest part of the city.
“I’ve received a lot of encouragement from people throughout the district to run and I’m hearing that citizens of our district want new leadership on the City Council. People in my district want more transparency in city government, want to get spending under control, help businesses create good jobs and reduce crime in our city,” Melton said through a news release.
Melton referenced the staff salaries hidden by the mayor as one example that more transparency is needed in government. She said truly understanding how all of the city employee contracts work and their future costs to taxpayers is another issue. She said the city government needs to learn to live within its means and cut spending to meet budgets and not raise taxes.
Melton is a former deputy Douglas County attorney who worked in the domestic violence unit. She is currently an attorney specializing in family law and defense work and is managing partner of the Reagan, Melton & Delaney, LLP Law Firm.
