An Omaha homeowner uses an iPhone app to track down the suspect that burglarized his home.
It’s every homeowner’s nightmare. Chuck Cooper woke up one morning and realized his home had been burglarized while he and his wife Sandy were sleeping.
Cooper tells Channel 6 News, “We got up and Sandy actually walked out into the living room first. She walked up and then walked back because she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She says our TV is gone. You just feel violated, that someone had actually gotten in.”
The burglar stole a garage door opener out of a car parked in the driveway of Cooper’s home. The burglar used the opener to get into the home. Cooper says he didn’t hear anything during the incident.
The burglar stole a car, computer, gym bag, briefcase and an iPad. It’s the iPad that got Cooper thinking and the fact that he still had his iPhone. He remembered an app called “Find My Phone.” He used the app to track his stolen iPad.
With the help of Omaha police, they found the burglar, Matthew Berney, at an apartment complex and Berney was arrested.
Cooper hopes the arrest will end recent burglaries in and around the Shadow Ridge neighborhood. Police say they are investigating whether Berney is responsible for other crimes in the area.
Android phones also have an app equivalent called “Where’s My Droid.”
