An Omaha woman awakened by smoke was safely able to escape her town home Saturday morning.
Crews called to the residence near 28th and Spencer just before 5:30 a.m. reported smoke and flames. "The fire was contained to the kitchen," said Omaha Fire Battalion Chief Bob McDonnell.
Damage was limited to the kitchen. The rest of the home was damaged by smoke. The Red Cross was called to help the woman and two children who also live there. The children were not home at the time of the fire.
