City Council President Pete Festersen announced Wednesday that Jim Dowding has been selected as the new City Council Chief of Staff. He'll be paid $89,657 a year.
Festersen said, "This is an important position that facilitates the work of city government. Jim has the right background and experience to serve all Councilmembers and the citizens of Omaha well for many years to come."
Dowding said, "It is an honor to be chosen as Council Chief of Staff. I look forward to working with exceptional staff in the City Council and City Clerk offices to help Councilmembers effectively represent their constituents."
The Council received approximately 50 applications for the position originating from both internal and external candidates.
Dowding was previously a City Council Staff Assistant and had been serving as Interim Chief of Staff since the retirement of Warren Weaver in July. His salary is $20,000 less that what had been budgeted for the position.
