The Old Market is one of Omaha's major draws and the Downtown Improvement District wants to ensure it stays that way. The D.I.D. has hired a private security company to help keep the peace in the Old Market.

The Old Market has its own feel and the street musicians contribute a lot to the ambiance that allows visitors to lose any inhibitions and just dance in the street.

Brandon Joseph says, "It is so retro yet fancy and it also has a modern type feeling it is very relaxing, very safe and quiet. Yeah I love it."

Joanne Lane says, "Yeah, safe and quiet, good for everybody to come out and enjoy."

Brandon and Joanne say as flight attendants they have seen much of America but the recently discovered Omaha is their favorite.

And that is music to Joe Gudenrath's ears. As Executive Director of the Downtown Improvement District he wants to make sure the Old Market retains its charm and continues to enchant guests in the Heartland.

Part of that is to make sure everyone in the Old Market feels safe so Frontline Security was hired to assist Omaha Police and provide guests with peace of mind.

Joe Gudenrath says, "Allows us to insure that it is safe, adds an extra set of eyes and ears on the street to keep an eye out and hopefully prevent anything from happening."

But Frontline guards have learned the job also requires public relations like giving directions or advice on the local restaurants.

Carol Lesch appreciates the added security but doesn't believe it is necessary.

Carol Lesch says, "It doesn't hurt but we've never had any problems down here and we're not afraid."

Frontline was hired on a trial basis in the Old Market but after several months the Downtown Improvement District's Board has decided to continue providing the added security in the Old Market year round.

They believe it complements the OPD presence, as well as private security teams at ConAgra and First National.
