The NRD spotlight was shining on an Omaha Police officer Thursday night for an above-and-beyond effort.
Last month, Officer Gary Kula safely moved around 5,000 bees from outside a home. On Thursday he was honored for his service.
As a beekeeper, Officer Kula says relocating problem bees is the best solution for everyone.
He said, “If they don't find a tree to go in, they're going to go into somebody's home, they're going to go into somebody's attic, garage, and then they become a nuisance for people. So not only am I helping out the bees, I'm also helping out people that may have problems with them going in the wrong place at the wrong time kind of thing."
Officer Kula knows his stuff. He's also a member of the Omaha Bee Club.
