Office Depot is closing its Omaha location at 72nd & Jones because it’s too big. The company tells Channel 6 News that for several years, Office Depot has been focused on improving in-store shopping experience by remodeling stores into a smaller format.
The company typically wants its stores to be 5,000 or 15,000 square feet. The 72nd & Jones location is nearly 26,000 square feet and does not fit in with its new format plans.
The location will close June 16. It impacts about 18 employees. The company says it is doing everything it can to help them with a severance package including outplacement services and other company subsidized benefits.
Office Depot is also working with the employees to identify open positions at other stores or within the company.
The retail stores at 129th & West Center, 138th & West Maple, and LaVista will continue operating.
